Based on my personal experience working in the the Fashion Industry, and the women that inhabit it.
I have painted this person with an abstract feel to represent the different types of back-stories that each fashion model has. The dark background is meant to represent the hidden part of their personality, merging in with the person that we all see.

The 'Look-back' Pose. Tom-Girl, a play on the phrase Tom-Boy. A fashion model who rose from streetwise prostitution, and pulled herself out of the gutter to become a successful model. Gone is the woman who once lived a life dictated by survival. In her place is a woman who knows her worth, who commands respect, and who unapologetically takes control of her own destiny. No longer a prostitute, she now stands as proof - that you can achieve anything you want if you really want it.
She’s not the easy mark you think she is....

When children play, their imagination knows no bounds. Especially on a rainy day when there’s nothing else to do. Their creativity thrives. There's something magical about those moments. Their dreams are unrestrained and pure. Guided only by the heart's desire to explore and create. Wistful dreams fill the air, and every simple object holds the potential for adventure. There's no limits, no rules. Just endless possibilities.
But as we grow older we trade the wild, untamed imagination of our youth for the predictable patterns of adulthood. Social media, mobile phones, and other electronic devices begin doing the imagining for us. Offering endless distractions and feeding us pre-packaged concepts of what life should look like.

We too coexist, bound by shared human experiences. We all try to be different, seeking to carve our unique path. Yet at our core, we too are all the same. Some of us are optimistic, others are pessimistic, and some are simply indifferent....

The park bench, a humble fixture in these spaces, symbolises this idea of pause. It’s an object we really never notice until we need it. We pass by, absorbed in our own thoughts and agendas. Until we're tired, and the need to rest becomes undeniable. The park bench becomes a temporary refuge, a spot where we can stop and take a breath, before moving on to the next stage of our journey. Wherever that might be.

In this painting I have intentionally painted the top of the box to face the opposite direction of the bottom, with no clear indication of the transition between the two. Symbolising the constant tension and disconnect between our subconscious and conscious minds.

At the centre of the painting a sphere hovers, representing our conscious mind. Like a round ball in a square box. Illogically trying to fit into a space it can't fully occupy. It questions the nature of our grip on reality, prompting us to ask: Is it all really real what we see? How much of what we experience is shaped by our subconscious, and how much is authentic, out here, in our existence?
Where do we, each one of us, fit into all this? This painting challenges us to reflect on our own place in the tangled web of mind and perception.

This canvas is designed to give the impression that the painting is leaning backwards, like a three-dimensional object. It plays with our perception of reality. Thus inviting the viewer to question the boundaries between form and space. The minimalist depiction of the Seagull above and its shadow below strips reality down to its barest essence. Reducing nature to its most fundamental shapes.
The Seagull, a familiar figure of the natural world, is rendered with precision yet abstraction, mirroring the way our view of the natural world is often shaped by contrast and perception.
This work is not just about what is seen but also about how we see it.

From the privileged elite to the outcast, from boardrooms to back alleys, the same dynamics persist — bargaining, gossiping, arguing, demanding, pleading. Some voices dominate with microphones and authority, while others whisper, scheme, or desperately attempt to be heard. The painting becomes a dense ecosystem of exchange, where the act of speaking is as important as the act of listening.
The exaggerated features and surrealist distortions reflect the fluidity of how we hear what we want, how expressions shift with intent. The figures blend into one another. Their boundaries blurred. Mirroring how influence and manipulation weave through our lives.
Despite advancements in technology, we still remain bound to the ancient, primal modes of communication.

Once a simple pleasure, smoking has been pushed to the margins. Outside of buildings. Away from the crowds. And thrust into the shadows of modern social etiquette. It is no longer just a habit. It has become a symbol of the rigid, rules-based world we live in. Where even personal vices must conform to external regulations. Yet, to the smoker, the act remains deeply intrinsic, almost ritualistic.

In this painting, I have endeavoured to capture every facet of the shopping experience. The desirous window shopper. The shoplifter. The charities, symbolised in this painting by the hand with the coin-slot in it. The credit cards that make spending effortless. And the unending aisles filled with products designed for obsolescence. Where the packaging of a product has become more important than the product itself. Where the products we buy are made from the cheapest ingredients that can be sourced. If it could be sourced even cheaper it would. Which means, by default, we're buying and consuming the absolute cheapest Cheapest products that the manufacturers can get away with.
The background of this artwork I have painted minimalist to mirror the void that's left behind after the thrill of a purchase fades.

Public transport, a supposed equaliser, becomes instead a microcosm of our disconnection. People merging into one another. Yet each remains locked in their own world. Some clutch newspapers, others stare blankly ahead, lost in thought or distraction. They are physically close, yet emotionally distant. Oblivious to everyone else around them. In portraying this, I deliberately blurred the boundaries between individuals. Illustrating how we have become faceless parts of a greater, impersonal system.
The tension of deadlines is palpable. Briefcases gripped tightly. Tired eyes scanning unseen clocks. The weight of expectation pressing down on slouched shoulders. And yet, what awaits at the other end of the journey? Another office, another obligation, another race against time that never truly ends.

The indifferent drug addict I painted in the bottom left corner serves as a stark representation of this apathy. He exists in a daze, numbed and detached. Much like the broader population. We're anaesthetised, whether by substances, entertainment, or empty political promises.

As the world continues its mad descent into chaos, the figures in this composition can be seen in frantic motion, desperate to get away from a society spiralling through a sea of of its own filth - Down the drain. . .

Yet the unfortunate, those who live in poverty and homelessness remain, on the periphery of our vision. Present, yet unseen. Their struggles are softened by knowing that there are charities out there to help them.

This painting is about those unfortunate people. Forcing us to see what we choose to ignore.
The hidden part of society that we pretend doesn’t exist.

Within these dreams, there are no such boundaries. The mind roams freely. Constructing narratives that defy logic, morality, or even personal identity. In these moments, we're both the observer and the participant. Tangled in a space where the rational and primal urges collide.
This painting aims to expose this hidden realm. To give form to that which is often left unspoken. By translating erotic dreams into tangible expression, we confront the tension between what we crave and what we suppress.

The other a potential descent into obsession, like a trophy hunter collecting trophies, preferably besotted lovers. Such as the man I have painted adorning the woman’s neck with a pink bow tied around his wrists.
I have painted the background in a surreal abstract background to mirror the subconscious desire for something more. Something beyond the skin-deep reflections being crafted.
Does vanity seek validation from within? Or is it dependent on the gaze of others to confirm its worth?

A young girl, who once had dreams of becoming a ballerina now moves to a different rhythm. One dictated by hunger, addiction, and desperation. By the cold asphalt beneath her feet. A prostitute.
She's a fallen angel. Her wings clipped by drug addiction. Scooped up by the underbelly of society that heartlessly swallows the lost and the broken like her. There's always one on every corner in every red-light centre of every town or city. Each with their own sad story of broken dreams and shattered hope. Living on the streets, she fades into the neon glow. Another shadow among many...
I have drawn this picture with her shadow and herself reversed, to reflect this tale of misfortune.

Once, he had a good home. A loving family. A life that meant something. Now, he’s just another shadow on the street. Another unfortunate soul lost in the cracks of society. A homeless alcoholic.
The man he used to be? Gone. Drowned in liquor, wasted away with every sip. His dreams? Broken. His hopes? Spent, just like his last cents on another cheap bottle. Alcohol is his only friend now. It numbs the cold. Dulls the hunger. And makes the past feel like a distant story that happened to someone else. But he doesn’t care any more. He’s got his bottle as his best friend.

I have drawn this picture of the man and his shadow reversed, to reflect that outlook. A shadow of his former self.

What this woman is looking into is a real genuine mirror. So that when you, the viewer, looks at this painting you see your own reflection in the mirror. Thus making you become part of the painting. She's looking at you. Your eyes meet...
Secret lovers move through the world like shadows. Careful, cautious, always watching. No one knows what they're up to, except each other. Every glance in public is a test. And yet, the fear is what makes it intoxicating. Is it love? Or is it just the exhilaration of the forbidden? The lines blur, the emotions tangle. Living in a world where passion exists only in the shadows. The knowledge that at any moment everything could unravel.

I have painted this piece to show that new-love is like the unknowable. Like the new dress she is trying on for the first time. Hence you, the viewer of this painting, only sees a hint of her reflection in the mirror. It's all new, unknown, hidden.
This love is untouched by cynicism. Unwrinkled by past sorrow. It’s bright, fresh, and untested. But will it conform? Embrace the shape of reality? or will it pinch, constrict, leaving behind seams of longing?
First-time love asks no such questions. It simply is. It dances in possibilities. Twirls in naïve delight. It believes in itself.
For now, new-love remains just that. Hopeful. Like a new dress, waiting to be worn into a story only time will tell.....

This nude study is about freedom of expression and our conformity to social taboos. The yellow background represents the sunny daytime atmosphere of complete openness with oneself. The minimalistic blue line representing an outdoor beach scene is meant to capture the hidden sexual aspect of being in the nude.
In a world obsessed with appearances, nudity reveals the inner self. Free from artificial coverings or social expectations. Freed of material distractions, a person stands in their true, barest self revealed. Nothing to hide. Nothing to prove. It is a natural form of honesty. A silent but powerful declaration that the body is not something to be ashamed of, but something to be celebrated.
While many still view nudity through a lens of shame or impropriety, it remains a deeply personal act of self-acceptance.

This painting is a modern day version of 'The Venus de Milo' sculpture created by Alexandros of Antioch around 150-100 BCE, and 'The Birth of Venus' painting created by Sandro Botticelli between 1482 and 1485.
Women’s empowerment in a society dominated by men is not just about gaining equality. She's more than just a Venus to look at. More than an object of admiration or desire. She's a force. A leader. A voice that demands to be heard.
The empowered woman knows her worth and refuses to be diminished. She stands firm wherever she chooses to be.
To be a strong woman today is to be assertive, unapologetic, and unstoppable. It is to walk boldly, speak confidently, and demand respect.
The world is shifting. And she's leading the way....

I painted this creation in a semi-abstract way to emphasise the different aspects of the pornography scene, juxtaposed with the different personalities and unfortunate people who star in these shows.
Pornography is often sold as a fantasy. But behind the illusion lies a world of broken dreams and shattered lives. It is a hollow entertainment built on the suffering of unfortunate souls, trapped in an industry that exploits desperation.
Beneath the glamour of blue movies, there is a darker reality. One ruled over by manipulative figures who prey on vulnerability, and turn people into commodities.
What some see as pleasure, is for many of these 'porn stars' a prison. And while the camera may stop rolling, the scars remain long after the final scenes has played out.

The blue daylight background represents the carnal desires of a woman. Where social taboos dictate what can be revealed and what must remain hidden. In the daylight, she presents an image of restraint. Her self-consciousness ensuring that her secret yearnings for sexual satisfaction remains hidden beneath the surface.
Society has long demanded that a woman’s sexual desires be kept hidden from view in the daytime. Relegated to the private spaces of the night, or the deep corners of her mind. Of imposed decorum.

The flaming red background represents the carnal desires of a woman at night. Fully unrestrained from the social taboos that dictate what can be revealed and what must remain hidden.
In this night time space, all her sexual fantasies are played out in reality. Not merely imagined but fully realised. Shaped exactly the way she wants. There's no pretence. No restraint. Only the raw expression of pleasure. Unburdened by inhibition.
Here, in the night, she is entirely herself. There is no need to conceal or minimise her hunger. Her pleasure, not a passive, repressed, thing but a fire that consumes and creates her in equal measure.
In this moment, she reclaims her body. There is nothing hidden. Nothing denied….

Like any exercise, even walking, or the energy elicited from using a mechanical device, like a bicycle, is a powerful way to improve overall health and wellbeing. Contributing to both physical and mental health.
Beyond the physical benefits of exercise, such as cycling, it plays a role in generating confidence. Setting goals. Pushing through challenges. All contributing to a greater sense of accomplishment. This, in turn, enhances self-esteem and motivation to maintain an active routine.

But children remain unrestrained from societal rules. Allowing them to express themselves fully, without hesitation. It's a time where life is lived effortlessly. In harmony with the world. Untouched by the weight of adulthood.

This painting is about quitting cigarettes and it's insidiously addictive qualities. It's an addiction that's Way worse than heroin. Just not as expensive....I need one!
Unlike other 'Drugs Of Addiction' with strict regulations, cigarettes are freely sold in supermarkets, corner stores, and gas stations, etc. These are the drug-dealers of the cigarette industry. Making access incredibly easy and fuelling the addiction.
Cigarettes are the Only recreational drug that gives you cancer. Approximately 22000 people around the world die from it Every Day. That works out to be around 900 deaths every hour. Imagine the outcry if some type of disease, virus, etc, had that kind of lethal impact.... Until you flick on the cigarette-lighter and exhale a satisfying plume of smoke. ...Who cares.
I've reached the end of my cigarette. This is the last drag. Next time, for sure! ....Yeah, right….

I have painted these children merging into each other to show that people are all the same. Yet each one of us is different
Childhood rivalry is often seen as harmless. Children competing over toys. Arguing over games. Or forming small groups against one another.
Yet, what begins as simple disagreements in childhood can grow into something far more destructive in adulthood. The same instincts that drive children to fight amongst themselves evolve into deeper divisions. Shaping ideologies, nations, and warfare. What started off as playful competition turns into person against person.
The echoes of childhood conflicts can be seen in the way adults engage with one another. Just as children draw imaginary lines between 'us' and 'them', adults do the same on a grander scale. Waging wars over power, resources, and beliefs.

A party is alive with joy and unselfconsciousness. Where laughter flows freely. And time dissolves in the warmth of shared moments. In this space, the openness of communication thrives. Words spill without hesitation, weaving connections that feel effortless and true.
Yet, as the night wanes, a quiet ache lingers. The unwillingness of a party ending. The unspoken wish to hold onto what is already slipping away.
And when the silence settles, only echoes remain. The empty remnants of a joy gone by, scattered like confetti. A reminder that even the most vibrant moments must fade….

Like a Seagull wandering over the vast expanses of a shoreline, some people seek new adventures. Drifting beyond the familiar in an search of something meaningful. The endless horizon calls to them, just as the bird glides effortlessly above the water. Scanning the world below. There is a quiet longing in the journey. A pull toward the unknown. Like a line of trees creating a Windbreak, merging into each other to stop the wind from flowing from one paddock through to the next. Societies exist on more or less the same level. Each community is aware of the other's presence. Yet there is a barrier between them. A wall of cultural differences.
I have painted this creation in a minimalist semi-abstract way to reflect this emptiness of communication. The desolately dry fields are meant to emulate this inability to accept each other's societal beliefs. The trees in this painting, merging into each other, is meant to symbolise the fact that despite those differences there is an element of like-minded thoughts amongst our various cultures and societies. Only interpreted in their own way.

This painting is about our awareness of reality and our limited view of the things surrounding us. I have painted this line of trees on a narrow strip of hillside in it's barest minimalist form to represent the fact that we only see things in the way we subconsciously prefer. Not as they really are, but as we want to see them. Bereft of any real detail.
Reality is shaped by our perspectives and preferences. Like tunnel vision, our view is often limited. Filtering out aspects of the world around us that don’t align with what we expect or wish to see. Yet, to be consciously aware means to challenge these limitations. To step beyond the confines of selective perception.

This painting is composed in a semi-abstract fashion to portray the peaceful serenity of when our mind is in a state of pure contentment. Like the movements of water on a shoreline, rippling into each other. The fish swimming above represents our lazy serenity as we waft around in complacent satisfaction. The 'D' minor' part of its title is all about the musical resonance of this state of mind.
To be at peace with the world and at peace with oneself is a rare yet deeply fulfilling state. A moment to be savoured. It is where the conscious and subconscious play together in harmony. Free from conflict.

I have constructed this canvas to give the optical illusion of the canvas leaning back, to give it a '3 D' appearance. The nude woman emanating from the pool symbolises the act of rising from her own self-consciousness. Emerging from the depths of the mind into existence. Her form, delicate yet raw, embodies the fragility of being human. Where vulnerability and strength coexist. As she ascends from the pool in the canvas, reality is exposed. Unveiled of any pretence. Revealing the delicate balance between the seen and the unseen.
The illusion is meant to challenge the viewer. What is truly real? Is our perception merely a reflection of the mind’s own depths?
